In the production of graphite electrode for steelmaking or anode paste for aluminum and magnesium (melting electrode), in order to make petroleum coke (raw coke) meet the requirements, it must be calcined in rotary kiln to further process coke. Calcination temperature is generally about 1300℃, the purpose is to remove as much volatile matter as possible from petroleum coke.

According to the sulfur content,calcined petroleum coke can be divided into low sulfur, medium sulfur and high sulfur calcined coke.

The use of low sulfur calcined coke: As insulation material and filling material for making graphite electrode and special carbon products; As a carburizing agent or reducing agent used in metallurgical casting industry, and used in titanium industry; 

The use of middle sulfur calcined coke: It is generally used in aluminum smelting, mainly used in prebaking anode and cathode for electrolytic aluminum. 

The use of high-sulfur calcined coke: It can be used in chemical production, silicon carbide or used as fuel for metal manufacturing, glass factory, etc.
