Japanese Ministry of Trade officials announced on Tuesday that the Cabinet has decided to impose a 95.2% anti-dumping duty on graphite electrode imports from China as a provisional measure, effective from March 29 for four months. In February 2024, major Japanese domestic graphite electrode producers, including SEC Carbon and Nippon Carbon, filed a complaint with the government, alleging that Chinese graphite electrodes flooded the Japanese market at extremely low prices. These competitively priced yet high-quality products have caused substantial harm to Japan's domestic graphite electrode industry, severely squeezing the survival space for Japanese manufacturers.
